Course Overview 

Venepuncture or Cannulation or a combined course, we can adapt and deliver this course to meet your needs.This course provides candidates with the underlying theory and skills on how to insert peripheral cannulas and obtain venous blood samples. This course will also incorporate time spent practicing the skills you have learn on specialist manikin arms. On completion of the theory day candidates will be provided with a certificate of attendance for the theory and practical elements of this course and they will then be able to gain confidence and competence under supervision of a suitably skilled mentor in order to be signed off as competent in their practice- please refer to your local guidelines and policies in order to esctablish competency..

Completion 
All our courses are based on best practice guidelines and on completion all candidates will receive a detailed verifiable certificate of attendance.

Before you are deemed competent to carry out this task independently you will be required to undertake a period of supervised practice with a competent practitioner. The course provides the underlying knowledge base that is required when using this skill and the candidate will require time spent with a mentor gaining competence and completing a specified number of supervised assessments prior to being deemed competent. The specified number of supervised successful attempts is to be identified by you employer.**

Legal and professional aspects/ local policies and ethics 
Explain the indications, contraindications and complications of cannulation/Venepuncture. 
Identification of suitable veins for cannualtion and veinipuncture 
Anatomy and physiology of the venous/circulatory system 
Suitable equipment required

Demonstrate the principles of ANTT and infection prevention
